I'm kind of surprised I have written so few knitting posts on this blog so far. Knitting is my first and number one crafting love. I branch out occasionally, and when I sewed Waldorf dolls for my etsy shop they came very close to taking over as my favorite type of crafting. However, even with that stint of doll-making (which isn't over, I don't believe, even though I need to take hiatuses from it often), knitting always has a siren-like call to me that I just can't possibly resist.
It's the colors, the feel of the soft yarn, the rhythmic click of the needles, the occasional check to admire the progress, the variety of projects possible to create, the options available: Thick yarn or thin? Textured, crunchy, soft? Big project or small? Follow a pattern or make up your own? Simple or complex? Cables or stranded? In the eleven years or so that I have been knitting like crazy, I have very, very seldom tired of it.
What you see in the photos above is Old Romance, a cardigan I suddenly decided I needed in my life immediately and without further ado cast on. It would make a great maternity sweater for now and then I could continue wearing it constantly after the baby was born as well. However, I am hoping it will never actually be a maternity sweater, because I am rather desperately hoping the baby will come any minute, rather than wait till I have finished this sweater.
Also, I REALLY hope Baby is not waiting for it's blanket to be done. I am on the next fairisle section, almost done with it, in fact, and then all that remains are those rows of hearts. Oh, and cutting the steek after sewing it on the sewing machine. And the border that I need to knit onto it. And weaving in the ends. And blocking it...yes, little baby, you don't really need to wait for your mommy to do all that before you decide to come, do you? Of course not- you've taken your sweet time so far and I've been patient but let's be done with all that waiting now, shall we? It's getting kind of boring, not to mention uncomfortable...hah.
